HOMECOMING QUEEN AND COURT
The
Homecoming Queen and the members of her court are official
representatives of the University of West Alabama during Homecoming
Week. The Homecoming Court is made up of women who have demonstrated a
commitment to academics, campus involvement and service to the
University community. Members of the Homecoming Court are required to
attend Serendipity, the Homecoming bonfire, the Homecoming parade and
the Homecoming football game. The members of the court are also
expected to appear in publicity photographs and may be asked to make
public appearances on behalf of the University.
Each residence hall and recognized student organization
may nominate three women for the Homecoming Court: one nominee for
Queen, one nominee for Sophomore Maid and one nominee for Freshman Maid.
Nomination forms must be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs
(Webb Hall 323) by Friday, October 2nd at 4:30 p.m.

A nominee for Queen must be a female junior or senior at UWA, taking
a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Seniors that are taking the required number of
credits to graduate by spring semester also qualify.

at least two semesters prior to the current semester and must have
at least a 2.25 grade point average (GPA).

Homecoming Court nominees may not be on academic or disciplinary
probation. The current Miss UWA Pageant title holder and previous UWA
Homecoming Queens are not eligible.
Homecoming Court nominees must pick up a Homecoming Court
Candidate Application from the Office of Student Affairs by Thursday,
October 8th. Candidate applications are due by Thursday, October
8th at
4:30 p.m.
Candidate applications will be reviewed by the Homecoming
Court Screening Committee approximately Monday, October 12th. The most
outstanding candidates, based on campus involvement, academic standing
and service to the university community, will be invited to an interview
with the screening committee. Candidates must check their UWA
e-mail on Tuesday, October 13th to see if they have been invited for an
interview.
Personal interviews will be conducted by the Homecoming
Court Screening Committee on Thursday, October 15th. Candidate
photographs will be taken at this time. The screening committee will
evaluate each candidate on campus involvement, interview skills,
appearance, academics and school spirit. The candidates will be ranked
by the screening committee. This ranking will count as 50% of the final
decision for the Homecoming Court. The top ten candidates for Queen,
top five candidates for Sophomore Maid and top five candidates for
Freshman Maid will be voted on by the student body.
An election for the Homecoming Court will be held on-line
Tuesday, October 20th through Thursday, October 22nd.
All undergraduate and graduate students that are enrolled for at least
six semester hours on the UWA campus in Livingston will be permitted to
vote in the election. Only verbal campaigning is permitted for the
Homecoming Court election. Flyers, signs, mass e-mails and other
marketing efforts are prohibited.
The votes by the student body will be used to rank the
candidates. An average of the election ranking and the screening
committee ranking will result in the final Homecoming Court selection.
The Queen candidate with the highest average ranking will represent the
University of West Alabama as Homecoming Queen. The four Queen
candidates with the next highest average rankings will be members of the
Homecoming Court. The sophomore and freshman candidates with the
highest average rankings will serve as the Sophomore and Freshman Maids.
The Homecoming Queen and her Court will be introduced to the University
community at Serendipity on Wednesday, October 28th.
