FIELD TRIPS

Off-campus field trips, which can provide valuable learning experiences, are permissible if they do not interfere unduly with attendance in other classes, but faculty members are expected to exercise discretion in planning such trips so that students will not have excessive absences.

Field trips should be planned well in advance, and they must have the approval of both the department chairperson and the dean. The names of students participating in a field trip should be sent to the professor’s dean well ahead of time so that the list may be published in the Weekly Report at least one week in advance. Such prior notice gives professors in other classes the opportunity to adjust their testing schedules, etc., when their classes are affected.

If State-owned vehicles are to be used in connection with a field trip, arrangements must be approved by the department chairperson and the appropriate dean and confirmed well ahead of time by the Motor Pool Clerk in the Physical Plant.

All due caution should be taken on field trips to safeguard the students involved. Releases may be required of students engaging in field trips.
