LOITERING POLICY
Although
the University encourages social interaction and the free exchange of ideas, the
University reserves the right to set the time and place of public gatherings so
as to maintain an environment on campus that is conducive to learning.
The University prohibits loitering near academic buildings, residence
halls, campus apartments and the cafeteria.
This policy applies to individual students, student organizations and
campus visitors.
Gathering
near residence halls, campus apartments, the cafeteria and other designated
“No Loitering” locations is prohibited unless specifically approved by the
Director of Student Life and Housing. Specifically,
gathering is prohibited within 50 feet of every residence hall and campus
apartment, and within 100 feet of every academic building and the cafeteria. In
addition, blocking the entrance to any campus building is prohibited.
Individual
students and recognized student organizations wishing to gather on campus may do
so near the steps of the Student Union Building (SUB). Permission must be
requested in writing at least 48 hours in advance from the Director of Student Activities.
Campus visitors wishing to gather on campus or distribute material to
students must request permission at least ten days in advance from the Director
of Student Life and Housing.
Any
student that violates this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
Campus visitors that violate the policy will be banned from the
University campus.
