AMOROUS
RELATIONSHIP POLICY
The University of West Alabama acknowledges
that consensual sexual relations between a faculty or staff member and a student
or a faculty or staff member and another faculty or staff member under that
person’s supervision are, as noted by the American Association of University
Professors, “fraught with the
potential for exploitation.”
Therefore, faculty and staff should avoid
situations where one is in a position to evaluate the performance, either in a
course or in the work setting, of a student, faculty, or staff member with whom
he or she has an amorous or sexual relationship.
In case a supervisory relationship cannot be avoided, the faculty or
staff member should notify his or her immediate supervisor to arrange for
another individual to conduct the evaluation of the person.
Attempts at nonconsensual relationships will
be dealt with under the University’s Policy on Sexual Harassment.
